Charles E. Odiase is a Consultant Pharmacist in Primary Care and Diabetes at the Dacorum GP Federation. He holds two postgraduate master’s degrees in clinical pharmacy and diabetes and a postgraduate diploma in advanced urgent primary care with independent prescribing.
Charles was part of the Leicestershire EDEN (Effective Diabetes Education Now!) team involved in delivering essential diabetes training to pharmacists in and around Leicester, UK. He has gained clinical experiences as a hospital, community, general practice, and medicines optimisation team (MOT) pharmacist.
Charles is part of Diabetes UK Clinical Champions Programme and the pharmacy representative on the Diabetes UK conference organising committee. He is a present co-chair of the diabetes UK Primary care Course annual event, and one of three pharmacists involved in developing a Hertfordshire Community Pharmacy Diabetes plus Service Pilot, integrating community pharmacies into the wider primary care team. He is a Life and Medical Sciences visiting lecturer at Hertfordshire University.
Charles is also an existing member of the UK diabetes expert panel IDEAL, where he works alongside individuals living with diabetes and other healthcare professionals to review and recommend improvements in diabetes care delivery in the UK. Charles has also been involved in reviewing diabetes service improvement interventions as a Diabetes UK conference abstract lead marker and diabetes Quality in Care (QiC) judge.
In his Consultant Pharmacist role, he runs regular complex diabetes specific surgeries, and other routine long-term condition clinics. He provides leadership, support, training and mentorship to other healthcare professionals especially in the area of diabetes care. Charles’s goal is to help create a world where diabetes can do no harm. Charles is a member of the UK Black Pharmacists Association (UKBPA).
