About
Whitney Sam is a London-based professional living with type 1 diabetes who brings a thoughtful, lived perspective to conversations about equitable and person-centred care. She has worked with Diabetes Africa on the Diabetes and Pregnancy Equity Project, sharing insights on how healthcare teams can better support women to plan and manage pregnancy with diabetes. Whitney contributes to youth engagement activities at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and is interested in improving awareness and understanding of diabetes among young people and within diverse communities. Drawing on her own experience of navigating preconception and pregnancy care, she emphasises the importance of clear communication, continuity of support, and cultural sensitivity in health services.
