Kamini Shah
Head of Research Funding
Diabetes UK

About

Kamini is currently the Head of Research Funding at Diabetes UK. In this role, she leads the management of research funding schemes, ensuring that only the highest quality research with the potential to impact the lives of people with diabetes is funded. As of 2022, she has been leading the delivery of the Steve Morgan Foundation Type 1 Diabetes Grand Challenges, and more recently has developed the research equity, diversity, and inclusion action plan, which has led to the creation of a new Black Leaders in Diabetes funding scheme. Kamini works cross-organisationally to steer the wider organisation’s ambition to tackle inequities.

Kamini is passionate about patient and public involvement activities, striving to effectively involve people living with diabetes in all research activities. She works closely with the Assistant Director of Research Strategy and Partnerships to support the overall strategic direction of research funding, build new partnerships, and deliver the priorities emerging from the Diabetes Research Steering Groups. Prior to joining Diabetes UK, Kamini worked in publishing at Elsevier Ltd for seven years before moving to the charity sector after completing her MSc in Organisational Psychology.
