IDF predict Africa to have greatest rise in diabetes prevalence of all regions

Africa set to have a 143% increase in diabetes prevalence within the next 25 years.

Earlier this year the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) published the 9th edition of the Diabetes Atlas; a well respected source of evidence on the impact of diabetes worldwide. Included in the publication is the startling insight that the Africa region is predicted to have the greatest increase in diabetes prevalence of all the regions.

The 145% increase in diabetes incidence in 20-79 year olds over the next 25 years would take the prevalence from 19 million to 47 million within the continent.
