Type 2 diabetes in young adults is rising, yet many people are still told they are “too young” to develop the condition.
In this Diabetes Health Matters event, Dr Joan St John is joined by Dr Victor Oguntolu to explore the realities of early onset Type 2 diabetes, why diagnosis before the age of 40 carries greater health risks, and what clinicians, families and communities need to recognise earlier. The discussion will cover the signs of Type 2 diabetes that are often missed at a young age, the impact on people of Black, African and African-Caribbean heritage, and the social and cultural factors that can affect diagnosis, treatment and long-term care.
In this session, we look at the latest NICE guidance, new approaches to treatment and remission, and why tailored support matters for younger people living with type 2 diabetes.
Whether you work in healthcare, live with diabetes yourself, or support someone who does, this webinar will leave you better informed about the challenges young people face and the changes needed to improve outcomes.
