Menopause and diabetes (Part 1)

Diabetes Health Matters with Dr Joan St John

10/03/2026, 18:30 GMT (UK)

In this episode

Menopause matters in diabetes care.

Hot flushes aren’t the only sign of the menopause. Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can affect insulin resistance, glucose levels, sleep, mood and weight. For women living with diabetes, these changes can make management more complex. For healthcare professionals, they are often not fully explored in routine consultations.

Understanding the signs benefits everyone.

In this two part Diabetes Health Matters event, Dr Joan St John is joined by Dr Itunu Johnson-Sogbetun, a GP with a specialist interest in women’s health and menopause care, and Dr Aziza Sesay, GP, educator, Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer and founder of Talks with Dr Sesay. Together they will discuss how falling oestrogen influences metabolic health, why glucose control may shift in midlife, and what better recognition could mean for care.

Whether you are living with diabetes, supporting someone who is, or working in healthcare, you will leave this webinar with a clearer understanding of how menopause affects diabetes and practical ways to recognise the signs, start informed conversations and support better care in everyday practice.
